I was once told by a friend of mine way back a few years ago, "You know, you Chinese are racist when it comes to marriage & relationships". I was merely shocked by that statement she threw on me. I began thinking is that the reason why some of us can't get along together? I've asked some of my friends about it and ended up having different opinions. One of them says she doesn't like her family to disown her (frankly some parents threaten their children if they still want to go along with it) and some because of our Chinese families will see us differently when they knew you married a Filipino husband or wife & we inherited the culture most of it ( A total B.S.) and the worst reason i've heard is their family is rich (Gold Diggers!) .
As I began tracing the history of the chinese culture, racism also existed during the periods of the of the dynasties. Royal families shouldn't marry a mere worker. At my generation this type of culture still exists up to now & I can't even blame others why the meaning of "kai-siao" for them is also called a fixed marriage but the true meaning of it is just as simply as getting to know. Just because some of us wanted to be seen as "CLEAN" families in our community but for me it's a mere stupidity.
I created this blog for a purpose, to get heard & understand that not all Chinese are in favor of the old culture. We have the right to choose among ourselves whom we wish to be with.
"We are created as one, then we shall live as one."
